Basketball Wives (not the VH1 Show) lol….Business Savvy All-Star Basketball Wives.

Source:

I know that many people watch, Basketball Wives (even though most of them are not married lol.  But I just wanted to put the spotlight on a couple of Basketball wives, of both current and retired NBA players, that have scored big in the business world. There are many more women doing there thing, but for the sake of keeping the blog short, I just mentioned three.

#1) Cookie  Johnson- Wife of Retired NBA Legend Earvin “Magic” Johnson

Like many women with curvy bodies, she struggled to find a jean that had the right fit. She took matters into her own hands, launching CJ by Cookie Johnson, a premium jean enterprise that caterers to real women with curvy/full figures, in 2009. She brought in the best in the denim business: Michael Glasser,  the founder of 7 For All Mankind and Citizens of Humanity.  Johnson  made it onto Oprah’s Favorite Things list for 2009. The jeans are available in Nordstrom’s and Bloomingdale's department stores across the country.

#2) Kimberli Russell, Wife of Retired NBA Player, Byron Russell
Besides appearing on Basketball Wives, she is a personal fitness guru who specializes in group training and nutritional counseling. She started Faith N Fitness Mind, Body and Soul after becoming a mother and realizing she could share her fitness pointers. Russell has additional projects in the works, including several products released under the K Russ brand.

#3) Alani “Lala” Vasquez, Wife of  NBA Player Carmelo Anthony

She worked her way up from intern at an Atlanta radio station to MTV VJ, hosting shows such as Direct Effect and TRL—interviewing stars such as Jay-Z,  Sean “ Diddy” Combs” and many other stars—but her career changed gears after becoming a mom. In 2008, the Latina launched Krossover Productions in collaboration with her then-fiance, Denver Nugget Carmelo Anthony, film producer David Haines and actor Kevin Phillips.  Vasquez has two reality TV shows in the works with Krossover and is one of the executive producers of Tyson, which is the award-winning independent documentary on former weight champion Mike Tyson.
